Greenings!

EVERY DAY, the light lasts longer, the hemisphere responds with spring, and our thoughts turn towards renewal - renewable energy.

In honor of renewal and Earth Day, we are stepping up our commitment to 'go green'. By participating in the City of Seattle's Green Up Program, which provides residents with the option of buying wind generated power, our energy dollars are generating wind power, thereby offsetting our carbon emissions impact.

They may be obvious, but sometimes the simplest solutions seem to escape us as we focus on bigger problems. Changing out lights to LED or compact florescent, using Energy Star appliances, and assuring our homes and businesses are well insulated are basic energy efficiency solutions. Tele-commuting and video conferencing are excellent ways to avoid fuel consumption. Energy savings are one of the motivations behind why we prefer to teleconference with our clients whenever possible.

However you choose to offset your impact on climate change, with seemingly small changes or by going completely carbon neutral, we salute you, because every effort we make counts.

Meet our Team: Cory

YOU MAY KNOW CORY as the founder of our web design company, but he has a colored past. You could say it's kind of green.

Cory co-authored the US Green Building Council's LEED Reference Guide 2.0 for commercial green buildings and programmed the rating system into a fully functional database used to manage and certify hundreds of green building projects.  Cory consulted with Paul Hawken's Natural Capital Institute to develop a system to track all non-governmental, international organizations working for sustainable civil societies.  He has also presented at international green building conferences on the informational aspects of sustainability, is an architect, and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Because of Cory's expertise, Well Built Web naturally gravitates toward green building and sustainability sites. We are proud to produce the monthly newsletter and maintain the website for Built Green of King and Snohomish Counties. We designed a dynamic website for the Built Green Washington program that allows each program coordinator statewide to contribute to the site. Most recently, we are helping King County's Solid Waste Division on their GreenTools project to share green building resources.

Introducing WebKey

LIKE TO BE IN CONTROL? Meet WebKey. We co-developed this online tool that drives dynamic websites and puts you in control of your content.

WebKeyAn elegant content management system (CMS), WebKey allows you to manage your website's content through an intuitive interface, and is accessible 24/7 via any web browser. The basic tool comes with the publisher, directory and file archive, but can be easily upgraded to manage portfolios, products, resources, and more.

WebKey encourages your whole team, or selected members, to add, edit or delete data. Collectively and remotely, you can all work on different aspects of the site at once and publish when ready, without a web designer. Client lists, mailing lists, resources, images, products, data. WebKey puts you in control of it all, and for your peace of mind, everything is backed up every day.

Ideally priced for small to medium-sized businesses and organizations, a one-time setup fee and nominal monthly subscription includes hosting with unlimited email accounts. To take control of your website, give us a call and we'll schedule a demonstration.

The Power of One

OUR TEAM MEMBER JADA, was recently on the 'Oprah Show' where the theme was 'The Power of One' and featured Genevieve Piturro, founder of the Pajama Program. This charity identifies institutions where children live in temporary situations while awaiting adoption, such as foster homes, safe havens from domestic violence, and AIDS hospitals. The program provides not only the comfort of new pajamas, but children's books as well.

Five days before taping, audience members were challenged to activate the power of one, collect pajamas, and make a surprise collective donation to the program on the show.

Jada flew into a campaign to collect donations of pajamas and pajama funds, which poured in from both coasts and places in between. Jada surpassed her goal of 25 pairs of pajamas when she arrived at the show with 138. The total audience contribution was 32,000 pairs of cozy new pajamas for kids who have never known that kind of comfort.

Thank you Jada, and everyone who supported her campaign. It cannot be underestimated: the power of one. Click here to learn more about the pajama program or to make a contribution.
